Opportunities exist to join board committees and to express an interest in a position as Director.

Personal qualities and experience

The Board is particularly seeking expressions of interest from people with Legal skills & experience and an affinity with the not-for-profit sector. A suitably experienced person will not be seen as a source of specific legal advice but will apply their skills, knowledge and experience to the good governance of the organisation.

The organisation

AQA Victoria Ltd provides services to people with disabilities and has established a particular reputation for specialist services to those with spinal cord injury. AQA is a member based organisation with a vision to improve the quality of life of people affected by spinal cord injury and build an inclusive community that recognises their capacity and rights. We have a highly committed workforce and a board that values leadership, governance and accountability. AQA's Strategic Plan articulates the vision for the organisation.

Current Services include

Peer Mentoring & Support

This highly valued service sees our Peer Support Coordinators mentoring people who have recently sustained an injury and are preparing for life in the community. Our team meet people at a time when nothing in life looks familiar, where most plans for the future have been wiped away. By sharing the strengths and lessons of the lived experience, people build positive expectations of themselves and new aspirations for life after spinal injury - particularly around relationships, family, employment & career, education, leisure and community participation.

Information & Referral

The service is utilised by people seeking reliable information about a diverse range of topic from accessible accommodation, leisure and sport options, specialist equipment and social support.

AQA Qualcare - Attendant Care

Personal care and support is provided to people with a physical disability in their homes and communities across Victoria.

The Governance Structure

The organisation is managed by a board of nine (9) honorary non-executive directors and the CEO. The Board is supported by a number of committees, which from time to time will have vacancies.

  • Risk and Compliance
  • Nominations and Appointments

Committees operate under a charter and comprise at least two (2) board directors and other members of the community appointed by the board. The Board meets bi monthly, Committees also meet bi monthly. Board & Committee members are required to successfully complete a National Police Check and sign a confidentiality agreement.
